I’m Slowly Learning That I Don’t Have to React to Everything That Bothers Me
Oftentimes it takes quite a long time to realize or to come to terms with the fact that you don’t have to attempt to hurt everyone who wants to do that to you. While it seems like human nature to contemplate or seek vengeance right away, the truth is that walking away from revenge, particularly when obtaining it would be all too easy, is what reveals the worth of maturity and restraint.
But, if you do manage to take the high road even once, it is easier to understand that thinking about negativity is what prevents you from thinking about more of the countless positive aspects of life, work, and love. Considering this, it becomes easier to stop wanting or trying to please everyone around you. Consequently, it becomes much easier to naturally want and try to please yourself, as you are supposed to.
Sometimes it takes a lot of time to understand that people do have the chance to choose between drama and peace, but they are somehow more inclined to drama, without realizing that it isn’t necessary at all. Once unwanted and unpleasant situations and sensations are avoided, things like arguments and fights seem to happen less frequently and with less fierceness. Over time, everyone can gain a new understanding of the idea that the loudest sound of all is the sound of words unspoken, and that saying nothing at all says more than saying anything ever could.
It often takes many years or even decades to see that your actions, words, and even your thoughts are capable of giving you power over other individuals as well as capable of giving other individuals power over you. Even if you don’t really have the power the control what others do, say, or think, very often maintaining and conveying your power over yourself is more than enough. What is more, finally most people will learn that focusing on what is going on within ourselves- at least regularly- allows us to gain better understanding of the things happening to us, outside of us, and around us.
Needless to say, nothing will ever be of 100% certainty, and numerous things will remain unclear forever, but at least once idea seems true: opting for peaceful reaction over over-excited reaction is a long step forward more peaceful happiness and more peaceful life in general.
Bottom line is that the key to happy life lies in never holding back or seeking revenge. As written in the Bible, If it is possible on your part, live at peace with everyone. Do not avenge yourselves, beloved, but leave room for God’s wrath. For it is written: “Vengeance is Mine, I will repay, says the Lord.”
